Related projects & initiatives
To increase the impact of PLANETS, the project and its partners engage with relevant projects, networks, clusters, platforms, and international initiatives, building strong partnerships and exchanging knowledge with ongoing projects to avoid duplication, harness synergies, integrate the latest findings, and widely share our own results.
We collaborate with key projects funded under the call topic “Development of safe and sustainable by design alternatives” (HORIZON-CL4-2024-RESILIENCE-01-24). These RESILIENCE-24 sister projects are (AlChemiSSts, BIOSAFIRE, DESIDERATA, PLANETS, RADAR). The five projects develop new chemical substances and materials that are designed from the outset to be safe and sustainable (following the SSbD framework), reduce environmental and climate impacts, and are suitable for real-world industrial applications, targeting areas with critical needs for substitution. Similarly, they work on identifying and overcoming barriers to substitution, address challenges in adapting existing production lines and communicate benefits (of SSbD materials) clearly to citizens and stakeholders.
Moreover, a good collaboration with the cousins projects RESILIENCE-21 (CheMatSustain, CHIASMA, SSbD4CheM, TOXBOX), RESILENCE-22 (ANALYST, INSIGHT, INTEGRANO, SUNRISE), and RESILENCE-23 (AI-TranspWood, M2DESCO, PINK, SiToLub) is ensured via the NSC activities.
As an overarching collaboration between the EU-funded projects under the HORIZON-CL4-2023-RESILIENCE-01 call topic, the Collab4Resilience (C4R) initiative aims to foster stronger partnerships by harnessing the transformative potential of nanotechnology and promoting Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) approaches to support a climate-neutral, circular economy. Under the motto “Stronger Together in Science and Sustainability“, the initiative joins Communication & Dissemination forces in the advanced materials and nanoscience topics to maximise the collective impact of EU-funded projects and support the EU objectives towards a greener, more sustainable and resilient Europe.
Additionally, we established connections with key projects and key initiatives focused on specific topics relevant to PLANETS. For Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD) several are relevant:
- The Network for Safety and sustainability of Chemicals and materials (NSC) is all about chemicals, materals and projects working on these topics. Through the leading roles of several PLANETS’ partners within the NSC, we ensure the exchange of information and the collaboration in SSbD, as well as education, training and communication topics with all ongoing NSC projects, as well as the organisation of joint events.
- The IRISS International SSbD Community was established as an outcome of the EU-funded project IRISS and provides genuine interaction with various chemicals and materials value chains (SSbD guidelines and practical support, breakfast webinars with experts and peers, training sessions and workshops, industry hub access to connect across diverse value chains, direct support from SSbD experts) via the IRISS Community Platform. PLANETS is part of the community via the NSC space within the IRISS Community Platform).
- The PARC partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals, strives to develop next-generation chemical risk assessment methods for human health and environmental protection
- Projects dealing with the Digital Product Passport (DPP)Â such as DigiPass, CIRPASS-2, etc.
- Elixir TeSS for the joint establishment of FAIRified SSbD-related learning paths.
- The EIT Raw & Advanced Materials Academy for the establishment of industry focused SSbD teaching curricula within the plasticizers, flame retardants and surfactants value chains.
- Several other relevant projects like SURPASS, Chem-X, and many more.
Furthermore, we actively collaborate with related initiatives, clusters, networks and platforms, like IAM4EU, IAM-I, Cefic, PINFA, European SusChem-Community, as well as national platforms e.g. SusChem-AT, Platform Green Chemistry Austria, etc.
